Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Airport (LGB) was honored yesterday with a Project Achievement Award for its new Ticketing Lobby from the Construction Management Association of America Southern California Chapter (CMAASC). Awards recognizing outstanding construction management were presented at the CMAASC’s 30th Annual Gala in Long Beach.

“Recognitions such as this really underscore the incredible work being done at Long Beach Airport,” said Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson. “Our Airport is celebrating its 100th anniversary this fall, and we have a long history at LGB of continuous innovation and modernization so that our Airport can best serve travelers today, tomorrow and well into the next century.”

The Airport was specifically recognized for its development of a new Ticketing Lobby, completed in the spring of 2022. The project is part of a major $120 million Phase II – Terminal Area Improvement Program to make strategic pre-security enhancements.

The $26 million investment in the Ticketing Lobby—designed by Corgan and constructed by Swinerton—complements the adjacent Historic Terminal and builds upon LGB’s status as a first-class gateway to Southern California, holding a special niche in the aviation industry with its easy access, sustainable facilities and welcoming feel for travelers. Anser Advisory provided construction management services for the project.

Features of the 16,700-square-foot Ticketing Lobby, designed to meet standards for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification, include common use ticket counters and self-service kiosks, improved bag checking and screening efficiency, optimized energy performance, high efficiency LED lighting, and reduced indoor and outdoor water usage.

“Long Beach Airport is proud to be recognized for the tremendous work and collaboration our team and business partners have put into ongoing modernizations at LGB,” said Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. “Teamwork, determination and perseverance—especially in the midst of the challenges that came with the pandemic—were key to the success of this transportation project.”

The Ticketing Lobby was completed alongside LGB’s new Checked Baggage Inspection System (CBIS). The state-of-the-art $25.5 million CBIS operation, at 6,545 square feet and connected to the Ticketing Lobby, allows the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) to more efficiently screen checked bags.

Since then, Phase II Improvements have included the opening of a Consolidated Baggage Claim Facility earlier this year. And, the Airport’s Historic Terminal building is currently undergoing major renovations, including a seismic upgrade, and will eventually transition into space dedicated to rental car services and concession opportunities.

LGB encompasses 1,166 acres and has three runways. It is unique among municipal airports for its diverse portfolio of Class A office buildings, hotels, retail, industrial facilities and a municipal golf course. The LGB campus supports 46,000 jobs and generates an estimated $8.6 billion in economic impact annually. Air carriers at Long Beach Airport—including Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines—currently offer service to 24 nonstop destinations around the nation, which is more nonstop service than at any time in LGB’s nearly 100-year history.
