CITY OF EL SEGUNDO: No Candy Cane Lane Festivities Due to COVID-19 Safety Concerns

Santa

City of El Segundo issued the following announcement on Dec. 2

Due to COVID-19 safety protocols and the Los Angeles County Health Officer Order prohibiting large public events and gatherings, event organizers have canceled Candy Cane Lane festivities.  With the recent surge in cases, L.A. County Department of Public Health issued the Temporary Targeted Safer at Home Order, prohibiting non-essential travel (with exceptions) and encouraging residents to stay home with members of their immediate household.

The City is working with Candy Cane Lane residents to help spread the word about the cancellation by placing electronic signs in the area, and other signs throughout the city to keep crowds away.  The City is issuing several notices to the public and media outlets to notify potential visitors from throughout the region that the event is canceled. Residents of Candy Cane Lane are encouraged to keep decorations to a minimum.

For many years Candy Cane Lane has brought great joy to the community, but considering the unprecedented circumstances, canceling the high-profile event to limit exposure during a pandemic is the right thing to do and the City appreciates the decision and cooperation of the event organizers.

The City encourages the community to celebrate the holidays responsibly by practicing safety measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 and looks forward to continuing to support the holiday lights display in future years.
