Lakers legend Magic Johnson said on March 20 that Luka Doncic is the most unguardable player in the National Basketball Association, following Doncic’s 60-point performance against the Miami Heat. The statement came as the Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to eight games, with Doncic averaging 40.9 points, 8.9 rebounds, and 7.4 assists during this stretch.

Johnson made his remarks on social media after the game, stating: “Luka Doncic is the most unguardable player in the NBA! He scored a season high 60 points in tonight’s win against the Miami Heat. Luka has to be one of the top 2 or 3 players being considered in the MVP race.” Johnson also praised LeBron James for his recent performances.

The Lakers’ recent success comes after a difficult period following the All-Star break. With Doncic leading the team, they are now positioned to secure a high seed in a competitive Western Conference as they approach the playoffs. Johnson commented on this momentum, saying: “The Lakers won their 8th straight game and they are playing their best basketball at the right time – just as the Playoffs are approaching.”

Doncic’s achievement marks him as only the second Laker since Kobe Bryant to score at least 60 points in a game; Bryant last accomplished this feat during his final appearance in 2016. Since joining Los Angeles last year, Doncic has become central to the team’s offense and playoff hopes.

As postseason play nears, observers note that every playoff team aims to peak at this stage of the season. The Lakers will face further challenges before playoffs begin, including two games against league-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

Reflecting on his milestone night and team support, Doncic said seeing his teammates celebrate his scoring accomplishment “made his heart happy.”
