Luka Doncic has quickly made an impact in his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers, reaching a notable milestone by moving into the top 10 for most 40-point games in franchise history. Doncic is currently leading the NBA in scoring, averaging 35.2 points per game, along with 8.8 rebounds and 9.2 assists.
During Tuesday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers, Doncic scored 32 points in the first half and finished with 43 points, narrowly missing a triple-double as he added nine rebounds and 13 assists. This marked his fifth 40-point game of the season and seventh since joining the Lakers last year.
The official Lakers X account highlighted Doncic’s achievement:

Doncic now joins a group of prominent former Lakers players known for their high-scoring performances, including Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Jerry West, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Magic Johnson.
Additionally, this was Doncic’s 39th career 40-point double-double, which places him ahead of former Laker Anthony Davis for fourth-most among active players. With five of those double-doubles coming while wearing a Lakers uniform, Doncic has tied Magic Johnson for sixth-most such games as a Laker. He also matched Bryant and O’Neal for most 40-point double-doubles as a Laker before age 27 since the NBA/ABA merger. By recording his 51st career 40-point game overall, Doncic surpassed Russell Westbrook to move into seventh place among active players.
In another incident during the game against the Clippers, Doncic was involved in an altercation with Kris Dunn that resulted in Dunn being ejected from the game. Jaxson Hayes received a technical foul after intervening on behalf of Doncic. Following the game, Doncic stated that he would cover any fine incurred by Hayes for defending him.
