Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Public Library’s (LBPL) Los Altos Neighborhood Library, located at 5614 E. Britton Drive, will temporarily close for scheduled facility maintenance beginning Thursday, June 15, 2023, and is anticipated to reopen on Wednesday, July 5, 2023. This closure is needed to prepare the facility for a scheduled heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) replacement project, funded partially by Measure A, anticipated to begin later this summer.

While the Los Altos Neighborhood Library is temporarily closed, outdoor book returns at the location will not be available for use, nor will donation drop off bins for the City’s donation drive for people experiencing homelessness.

Library patrons are encouraged to visit other LBPL locations nearby during the scheduled closure, including:

  • El Dorado Neighborhood Library, 2900 Studebaker Road, 562.570.3136
  • Mark Twain Neighborhood Library, 1401 E. Anaheim St., 562.570.1046
  • Bay Shore Neighborhood Library, 195 Bay Shore Ave., 562.570.1039

Patrons can also utilize the Library’s vast collection of digital resources, including the Library catalog, downloads and databases, available 24/7.

Proper HVAC allows for optimal indoor air quality, ventilation and temperature regulation and helps ensure a comfortable indoor environment. The City continues to identify ways to enhance existing facilities through these types of projects. In 2021, the Alamitos Neighborhood Library – the oldest LBPL location – underwent similar HVAC replacement. Further information regarding the 2023 HVAC maintenance closure of the Los Altos branch will be provided at a later date.

More information about LBPL hours and locations is available on the Library’s website at lbpl.org.

Media inquiries may be directed to Cathy De Leon, Director, Library Services, at 562.570.6291 or Cathy.Deleon@lbpl.org.
