Hip-hop artist Lil Wayne criticized the officiating during the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on May 8. His comments came after several Lakers players, including Austin Reaves, LeBron James, and head coach JJ Redick, were seen voicing their frustrations with the referees throughout the game.

The issue of officiating has become a talking point for both fans and players. Many watching the game expressed dissatisfaction with how it was called. Lil Wayne posted on social media during Game 2, saying, “OKC games are unwatchable. The refs are even dressed in their colors tn! Brazy,” referencing his belief that officials favored Oklahoma City.

Complaints about favorable calls for the Thunder have been common over recent seasons. While Lil Wayne is known as a Lakers fan, his remarks echoed broader concerns from fans who have questioned officiating consistency in games involving Oklahoma City. During this particular game, Reaves had a heated exchange with official John Goble after feeling disrespected during a jump ball incident. Other complaints included missed foul calls and decisions that negated scoring opportunities for Los Angeles.

Despite these frustrations, observers noted that it would be inaccurate to blame only referees for the Lakers’ current deficit in the series; Oklahoma City managed to protect its home court advantage effectively in Game 2.

Afterward, coach JJ Redick continued to express his disappointment regarding missed calls and suggested that overcoming both strong opponents and unfavorable whistles presents an added challenge for his team.
