Los Angeles Lakers player LeBron James said on March 18 that he is sometimes surprised by his own athletic performances, even at this stage of his career. James made the comments after the Lakers’ win over the Houston Rockets, where he completed a dunk over Rockets forward Jabari Smith Jr. and caught an alley-oop from teammate Austin Reaves.
James addressed his continued ability to make highlight-reel plays during a post-game interview on Spectrum SportsNet. “It kinda is, yeah. It kinda is at times,” James said when asked if he surprises himself. “I don’t know if any of those surprised me. I mean the one in the first half, I seen him tracking me. He’s a pretty good shot blocker so I had to throw that down. The lob from AR, I told him to throw it so I had to go get it. But there’s some plays that I still do at this point in my career where it definitely surprises me for sure.”
James has played more seasons than any other NBA player and continues to perform at an All-Star level late into his career. His recent performances have energized both the team and fans as the Lakers prepare for postseason play.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick also commented on James’s effort in a recent game against the Denver Nuggets, where James dove for a loose ball—a move both Redick and James noted was unusual for him at this point in his career.
The Lakers are currently building momentum as they approach the playoffs, with James’s leadership and athleticism playing a key role.
