LeBron James said on March 27 that his son, Bronny James, has earned his place in the National Basketball Association. The statement comes during Bronny’s sophomore season with the Los Angeles Lakers after being selected 55th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft.

The topic is significant as it addresses questions about whether Bronny’s presence on the team was due to LeBron’s influence or based on merit. LeBron has been open about wanting to play alongside his son, and now he believes Bronny has justified his spot through performance and perseverance.

“Especially knowing the path, you know, the road …,” LeBron James told The Athletic. “So, just proud of him. I’m super proud of him. And he belongs. He belongs.”

After suffering cardiac arrest during his time at USC, Bronny faced challenges returning to basketball form. LeBron said that he recently noticed a change in his son’s demeanor: “Physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally, he’s back.” According to LeBron, a recent conversation revealed that Bronny felt confident again in all aspects of his game.

The Lakers managed Bronny’s return carefully by limiting his minutes during Summer League and gradually increasing them throughout the current season. While most of his playing time came during less critical moments or when teammates were injured, coaches and players have praised him for effort and energy—especially noted during a recent win against the Indiana Pacers.

Looking ahead, it remains uncertain when or if Bronny will become a regular part of the rotation; however, both father and son express optimism about future contributions to a Lakers team considered contenders when healthy.
