LeBron James said on March 31 that the Los Angeles Lakers are in a positive place as they continued their strong performance in March, entering Tuesday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 14-2 record for the month. James highlighted the team’s chemistry and enjoyment playing together following a win over the Washington Wizards.
The importance of team unity comes as the Lakers adjust to different roles within their lineup. After missing three games earlier in March, James returned and took on a new role as a tertiary scoring option behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Despite this adjustment, he demonstrated his leadership by recording a 21-point triple-double against Washington while Doncic was absent.
“We’re in a good place right now,” James said after Monday’s win. “The chemistry is high. Everyone loves being around each other. We love playing for one another. We love being off the floor with one another. It’s a good tight-knit group and we gotta carry that for the rest of the regular season then I feel like the postseason is a whole new season.” He added about their approach to defeating Washington: “I mean we had a professional approach. We came in we got the job done, understanding, doesn’t matter who we’re playing, we’re still trying to build habits for the postseason, so it was a good win for us.”
James also reflected on appreciating individual achievements more this year than last year after becoming once again the oldest player in league history to record a triple-double. “I’ve had moments more this year than last year. But I’ve enjoyed more in the moment. It’s pretty cool,” he said. “It’s pretty cool to know that I’m at this point in my career and I’m still able to do those things. It’s super dope, it’s super humbling and just trying to put the work in or continue to put the work in and just, and those are results of it.”
During their recent game against Indiana Pacers, WNBA star Caitlin Clark attended as an amateur photographer and posted viral photos she took of James during play.
As Los Angeles continues its run through March with strong performances from both veterans like James and newer stars such as Doncic, attention will turn toward whether their current chemistry can translate into success during postseason play.
