LeBron James said on Apr. 19 that playing postseason minutes alongside his son, Bronny James, during the Los Angeles Lakers’ Game 1 victory over the Houston Rockets was a unique and memorable experience. The younger James, a sophomore guard and former USC player, made his first playoff appearance due to injuries in the Lakers’ backcourt.
James reflected on the significance of sharing the floor with his son in such a high-stakes environment. “I was on the floor with my son in a playoff game,” LeBron said after taking a 1-0 series lead. “That’s probably the craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my career. It was just so cool to be out there with him and his brother, sister and mom in the building, and his grandma. That’s just insane. My mom got to watch her son and grandson during the playoffs. That’s crazy.”
The elder James acknowledged that no amount of advice could fully prepare Bronny for his first postseason action but emphasized its importance for growth as an NBA player. “We all prepared this week, including Bronny,” LeBron continued. “Just like everybody in their first playoff game, you’re gonna be nervous… But once you get the jitters out, you get that first game under your belt, you kind of know what to expect. He’ll be better going into the next time he gets his number called.” He also recalled being nervous before his own first playoff game in 2006.
Although Bronny played only four minutes without notable statistics, LeBron stressed that gaining experience is crucial for young players aspiring to have an impact at this level.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick has relied more on Bronny throughout this season due to roster shortages and expressed trust by giving him opportunities during critical moments of games.
As both father and son look ahead to future games in this postseason run, observers will watch how these shared experiences shape their performance moving forward.
