Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James offered congratulations to Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett after Garrett set a new NFL single-season sack record. Garrett achieved his 23rd sack during the fourth quarter of a game against the Cincinnati Bengals, surpassing previous record holders Michael Strahan and T.J. Watt.
James, who is known for holding several NBA records including being the league’s all-time leading scorer, is also a long-time fan of the Cleveland Browns. After Garrett broke the record, James posted on social media:
“CONGRATULATIONS MY GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!! @Flash_Garrett”
James and Garrett have developed a friendship over the years, with Garrett often referencing James in his celebrations. Earlier in the year, Garrett reportedly considered requesting a trade from the Browns and consulted with James before deciding to remain with the team.
Although the Browns will not participate in this season’s playoffs, Garrett expressed satisfaction at achieving this milestone while playing for Cleveland, where he was originally drafted first overall.
In other comments unrelated to football records, James recently discussed similarities between basketball and football when talking about an on-court play involving Luka Doncic. He said: “One of the best quarterbacks and I’m a pretty good receiver, when it comes to that. It’s my job to not allow the defense to break that up or steal the ball. And he put it right on target, and made it a lot easier for me.”
James also mentioned learning techniques from former NFL wide receiver Randy Moss about keeping defenders guessing by delaying raising his hands until catching passes.
