The Los Angeles Lakers extended their winning streak to seven games with a victory over the Houston Rockets on March 19, led by standout performances from LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

This win not only secured another victory against a playoff contender but also clinched the season series for the Lakers over the Rockets. This could prove important if both teams finish with identical records. The Lakers now hold a two-game lead in the loss column over both the Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves, and are three games ahead of the Denver Nuggets, holding tiebreakers over all three teams.

The team’s recent success has been attributed to improved chemistry between Doncic, James, and Austin Reaves, as well as stronger defense. Wednesday’s game was notable for historic achievements by both James and Doncic.

James scored 30 points on 13-of-14 shooting from the field. According to ESPN Insights: “LeBron James finished with 30 PTS on 13-of-14 FG (93%). At 41 years old, LeBron becomes the oldest player in NBA history to score at least 30 points on 90% shooting by almost 5 years.” The previous record was held by Arvydas Sabonis at age 36. James is also the first Laker since Shaquille O’Neal in 2003 to achieve this feat.

Doncic contributed with 40 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists. OptaSTATS reported: “Luka Dončić of the @Lakers is the first player in NBA history to have a 7-game span with: 250+ points, 50+ rebounds, 50+ assists, 25+ threes made, undefeated record.” During this stretch, Doncic has averaged more than 38 points per game while maintaining high efficiency from both inside and beyond the arc. He has also recorded five consecutive games scoring at least 35 points when playing in Houston—an arena record.

These achievements highlight a period of strong performance for both players as well as for the Lakers overall. Observers will be watching closely as they continue their push toward postseason play.
