The Los Angeles Lakers have updated their injury report ahead of Sunday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors. LeBron James, who has been dealing with left foot joint arthritis and right sciatica, and Luka Doncic, recovering from left groin soreness, have both been upgraded from questionable to available for the matchup.
Austin Reaves (left calf strain) and rookie Adou Thiero (right MCL sprain) remain out due to longer-term injuries. The return of James and Doncic is expected to be significant for the Lakers, who will also welcome back centers Deandre Ayton and Jaxson Hayes. The team struggled in their previous loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, lacking offensive firepower and rim protection.
James’ participation marks his fifth game in seven days. Head coach JJ Redick faces the challenge of managing player workloads carefully, especially during consecutive games, as the team has faced ongoing health issues this season.
The Lakers are looking to secure a win before starting an eight-game road trip. The Raptors are also contending with injuries; RJ Barrett (ankle sprain), Jakob Poeltl (lower back strain), and Ja’Kobe Walter (right hip pointer) are among those sidelined. In their previous meeting in Canada, Scottie Barnes recorded 23 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists while Brandon Ingram added 20 points with seven rebounds and seven assists.
LeBron James emphasized the importance of overcoming adversity: “We have to ‘right the ship’ until they’re whole again.” He acknowledged that every team deals with injuries differently but stressed that no one would feel sorry for them as they try to maintain competitiveness during this stretch.
