LeBron James said on March 29 that he is not taking for granted the opportunity to play alongside his son, Bronny James, after the two made NBA history with a father-son assist during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 116-99 win. The moment occurred when LeBron found Bronny open for a three-point shot, marking the first time in league history that a father assisted his son in an official game.

The event holds significance as it represents a rare milestone in professional basketball and highlights the evolving dynamic within the Lakers roster. With head coach JJ Redick giving Bronny playing time due to Marcus Smart’s absence, both players contributed meaningful minutes together on the court.

“Well, I mean, just not taking it for granted and just being in the moment of us being on the floor once again,” LeBron said following their victory. “That’s two games back-to-back, him playing meaningful minutes and him also making another play. Obviously, they were making a run in that second quarter and they did make a run in that second quarter.

“But, just for me, I just always make the right play. I got doubled and he was able to make the fake pass to the corner and then knock down the three. So, definitely a cool moment for us and also for our family.”

While Bronny is still working toward becoming a regular part of Redick’s rotation with Los Angeles, his recent performances have shown increased confidence compared to his rookie season. His willingness to take important shots reflects growth as he aims to establish himself as an NBA player.

Speculation surrounded Bronny’s selection by Los Angeles in the draft due to perceptions about pleasing LeBron; however, both have expressed commitment to proving themselves through performance on court. LeBron maintains belief that his son belongs at this level of competition.
