The Los Angeles Lakers will begin their first-round playoff series against the Houston Rockets on April 18, following a regular season that saw them finish with a 53-29 record and secure the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference.

The matchup is significant as both teams feature veteran stars and are facing challenges due to injuries. The Lakers, who won two out of three games against the Rockets during the regular season, are currently without Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, both of whom remain out indefinitely. Their absence has led many observers to consider Houston the favorite despite being seeded lower and lacking home-court advantage.

LeBron James continues to be a central figure for Los Angeles. At age 41 and in his 23rd NBA season, James has maintained high performance levels, especially in playoff situations where he has had notable success throughout his career. On Houston’s side, Kevin Durant brings similar experience and leadership. The upcoming series marks the first time James and Durant will meet in postseason play since the 2018 NBA Finals.

If either Doncic or Reaves is able to return later in the series—should it extend beyond four games—the Lakers could see a boost heading into potential matchups against higher-seeded teams such as Oklahoma City Thunder in subsequent rounds.

This year all NBA playoff games will be broadcast exclusively on national television networks rather than local stations. Fans can listen to live radio coverage of all Lakers playoff games on ESPNLA 710 AM or KWKW 1330 AM (Spanish).

Game one is scheduled for Saturday night at Crypto.com Arena with additional dates set for April 21, April 24, and April 26; further game times will be announced if necessary.
