Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has acknowledged challenges within the team following three consecutive blowout losses. The defeats have raised concerns about defensive effort and overall team culture.
Redick addressed the issue of team culture, stating, “You know, we had it. I always say this about culture, I always say this about the team being a good team, being a functioning organism – it can change like that. We don’t have it right now.” His comments reflect a shift from earlier in the season when the Lakers started with a strong 16-5 record but have since struggled to maintain momentum.
The Lakers’ recent performances against teams such as the Phoenix Suns and Houston Rockets—both potential postseason opponents—have highlighted difficulties in matching their physical style of play. Despite speculation about possible trades to address these issues, no moves appear imminent, placing added pressure on Redick to find internal solutions.
Lineup adjustments are expected, particularly after Austin Reaves suffered another calf injury on Christmas Day. Redick is considering changes among starters and may shorten playing time for underperforming players in an effort to improve defensive performance.
After Thursday’s loss to the Rockets, Redick expressed his frustration with his team’s response: they “don’t care enough right now.” His remarks underscore dissatisfaction with both effort and results as he seeks ways to restore a winning mentality within the roster.
