Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James and Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo faced each other on Friday night, marking their first matchup since 2022. Both players were healthy for the game, which drew attention due to their status as top NBA athletes.

Antetokounmpo expressed his admiration for James after the game. “It means a lot to me,” Antetokounmpo said. “I got his jersey tonight. I think he is the blueprint for every athlete, not just basketball athletes, on how to be consistent. To be consistent for 23 years, to be available, to be a winner, to lead by example. It is incredible for me to be around greatness and I will never take it for granted. I have the utmost respect for him and his family and the way he has carried himself for 22 years. I think he brings the best out of me as a player and he’s one of those guys that I definitely look up to.”

James, now in his 23rd season at age 41, continues to perform at an All-Star level despite missing the first 14 games of this season due to injury. His ability to maintain high performance over such a long career is notable among both fans and fellow players.

Bucks head coach Doc Rivers also commented on James’ career longevity and success over more than two decades coaching against him.

As James approaches the end of his playing days, his approach toward maintaining physical health has been recognized as key in extending his career and creating opportunities for team success.
